Good news for Sprint users with LTE-enabled devices today. The carrier announced this morning that it has flipped out the 4G tech for a handful of major new markets including San Diego and St. Louis, and several smaller ones.

Today's rollout pushes Sprint's LTE network into over 300 US cities, covering close to 200 million people—a significant milestone for the company, although it's still well behind its much larger competitors Verizon and AT&T...

Apple supplier Pegatron using facial recognition to scan for underage workers

Following the death of a 15 year-old factory worker, The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Pegatron is using facial recognition technology to screen applicants for its iPhone plant. Pegatron manufactures the iPhone 5c and other products for Apple.

The company is using the tech to match real faces with those on government-issued IDs. This form of authentication helps to weed out those with borrowed or forged IDs, which is believed to be how the 15 year-old was able to get past initial screening...

Apple offers free Lorde single in ’12 Days of Gifts’ app

Last week, Apple updated its '12 Days of Gifts' app for the 2013 holiday season. The update was a fairly significant one, because for the first time ever, the company opened up access to the application for folks in the United States.

And Apple is celebrating the occasion by giving away a free gift early. While the actual 12 Days of Gifts event isn't scheduled to begin until December 26, users with the app installed right can pick up Lorde's new single 'No Better.'

New concept reimagines Apple TV interface with iOS 7-like design, Siri and more

Now that Apple has rebuilt iOS for its iPhone and iPad, the question is: will the new design make the leap to the Apple TV? Apple continues to refer to the set-top box as 'a hobby,' as it has quietly added several new apps and features to its software.

So let's just say that, for the sake of argument, Apple is planning to bring iOS 7's UI design to a future version of the Apple TV software. What would it look like? Well according to designer Andrew Ambrosino, it would look a little something like this...

Pod2g denies claims that jailbreak was stolen from evad3rs

If you've noticed a shortage of jailbreak news on iDB lately, that's simply because there hasn't been any to give. While the evad3rs are hard at work hacking iOS 7, we've heard little about their progress since planetbeing's 'all the pieces' tweet in October.

This changed, though, last week, when reports began surfacing that someone close to the group had stolen a jailbreak from them and sold it to a private buyer. But evad3rs member pod2g has denied the claim, and says the iOS 7 JB is progressing slowly...

WSJ: Sprint looking to acquire T-Mobile USA

The Wall Street Journal is reporting this afternoon that Sprint is working on a potential T-Mobile USA purchase. The carrier is said to be looking into regulatory concerns right now, and a bid in upwards of $20 billion could come in early 2014.

A merger of these two wireless providers would be significant for a few reasons. For one, it would leave just 3 major competing carriers in the US. And two, Sprint and T-Mobile have a combined subscriber base close to that of AT&T and Verizon...

iOS 7.1 expected to unlock ‘iOS in the Car’ feature

One of the big iOS 7 features Apple showed off during its WWDC event in June was called iOS in the Car. The feature allows for deeper integration between iOS devices and vehicles, enabling users to view iOS apps on factory in-dash displays.

Until now, the feature has not been available, but it looks like the upcoming iOS 7.1 update will change that. Earlier today, Apple seeded the second beta of the firmware to developers, and it includes a new Settings on/off toggle for a Car Display...
