Apple Culture Reacts to Steve Jobs Resignation as CEO

As you can imagine, it came as a surprise to all of us when Steve Jobs announced that he was stepping down as CEO of Apple this afternoon. Sure, we all knew that he has been battling health problems, but we figured he'd at least stick around as CEO for the company's upcoming announcement this Fall.

While we don't know if Steve will grace the stage this Fall to unveil the iPhone 5, we do know that the impact he left on the technology space will be felt for decades. We've collected some of the best responses to Steve Jobs' departure from around the internet...

Steve Jobs’ Departure Hasn’t Destroyed Apple Stock Yet

In only a couple hours of trading since Steve Jobs announced his resignation as CEO, Apple shares have only gone down about 5%. Considering Jobs' impact and influence in the minds of both consumers and Wall Street, that's not really the huge drop that everyone expected.

Steve built up Apple as a well-oiled machine before he stepped down, and he's left that machine in the capable hands of Tim Cook and the rest of the Apple board. It should also be noted that Steve will still be heavily involved in Apple, as he as accepted the postion of Chairman of the Board.

Remembering: Steve Jobs Introduces the First iPhone

It's only fitting that we go back to what changed everything. Steve Jobs has resigned as the CEO of Apple, and it's time to reminisce about the man that changed the present and future of consumer technology.

Here's Steve introducing the first iPhone in June of 2007 at Macworld...

Apple Preparing Cheaper 8GB iPhone 4 With iPhone 5 for End of September Launch

A new report from Reuters states that Apple is planning a cheaper 8GB version of the iPhone 4 to unveil alongside an iPhone 5 flagship device at the end of September. The iPhone 5 will look "largely identical" to the updated iPhone 4, but it will have a larger screen, better antenna and 8 megapixel camera.

Previous rumors were that Apple wouldn't launch a new iPhone until early October, with a possible announcement at the end of September. There have been whispers of two new iPhone models coming this Fall, and this "cheaper" 8GB iPhone 4 will clearly be targeted towards the cheaper mobile market.

It's not very often that you'll come across a game in the App Store that's as charming and addictive as The Last Rocket. Created by established developer Shaun Inman, The Last Rocket is one of those few iOS games that consists of total excellence in every area.

If you're a fan of the retro, 8-bit style of gameplay, then The Last Rocket is a title you can't ignore. It looks and feels like it could run just as well on the NES as it does on the iPhone and iPad.

Apple Ditching the UDID for iDevices in iOS 5

A subtle change has been noticed in the iOS 5 beta. Apparently, Apple is changing the way that developers can access an iDevice's unique identifier number. For those unfamiliar with the concept, a 'UDID' allows developers to identify app users on a specific, device by device basis.

In iOS 5, Apple is no longer allowing developers access to an iDevice's UDID, but instead allowing developers to create app-specific UDIDs. This basically means that mobile ad and game networks won't have access to your device's specific number for tracking and inventory, which is the means that these systems have always worked off of in the past.
