Learn how to use the new pin feature in the Music app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV to stick your most loved songs, playlists, artists, and albums to the top of your music library for fast access.
I have amassed a vast library of songs and playlists over the years. But like many people, I often listen to just a handful of tracks regularly. The rest are just there, rarely played, but I don’t delete them, thinking I may need them for some occasions. Plus, I have set up Shazam to sync and add all recognized tracks to my library, which increases my library size on a regular basis.
Because my music library is huge, finding my favorite tracks can be time-consuming. This is where the new pinning feature in iOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26 comes in handy. It allows me to put my most loved tracks and playlists to the top of the library, making it super easy to access without having to scroll through a long list.
What you can pin
You can pin the following in the Apple Music app:
- Individual songs
- Individual music videos
- Playlists
- Albums
- Artists
- Compilations
Pin songs, playlists, albums, or artists to the top of the Apple Music app
You can pin items that are already added to your library. Plus, pinned tracks sync across devices, so you don’t need to repeat this process separately on all your devices.
iPhone or iPad
- Open the Music app and go to your Library section. Then, access your Songs, Playlists, Artists, Albums, Music Videos, or Compilations.
- Touch and hold an item or tap the three dots menu button next to it and select Pin Song, Pin Album, Pin Playlist, etc.
Mac
- Launch the Music app and find the item you want to pin.
- Control-click or right-click over an item and select the Pin option.
Apple Watch
- Go to the Music app and tap Library, followed by Songs, Albums, Artists, or Playlists.
- Swipe left on an item, then tap the three dots menu icon, and select the Pin option.
Apple TV
- Get inside the Music app and go to the Library tab from the top.
- Now, select Songs, Playlists, Artists, Albums, etc., from the left sidebar.
- Press and hold an item and choose the Pin option from the menu.
Pin from the Now Playing screen
You can also hit the three dots menu icon on the Now Playing screen and select the Pin option. This works on iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and even tvOS.
Android
As of September 2025, the pinning feature isn’t available in the Apple Music app on Android phones. However, once it’s added, you should be able to pin music and albums by tapping the three dots menu icon next to that item.
Access your pinned items
After you pin songs, playlists, albums, or artists, you’ll find them all at the top of the Library section in the Music app on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.
On Mac, pinned items appear in a dedicated “Pins” section, listed under the “Library” heading in the left sidebar.
Similarly, on Apple TV, there is a Pins option in the Library tab where all of your pinned items are displayed.
You can pin up to 6 items
While you can pin songs, albums, playlists, artists, etc., the total number of pinned items shouldn’t exceed six. If you try to pin additional items, a pop-up will appear, asking you to unpin an existing item first.
Unpin an item
Just touch and hold an item on iOS, watchOS, or tvOS and select the Unpin option. You can also tap the three dots icon at the top of the iOS Music app, select Edit Pins, and hit the minus button to unpin them.
On macOS, right-click over a pinned item and select the Unpin button.
Pinned songs sync via iCloud to all devices
Everything you pin on one device appears on your other Apple devices where you use the same Apple Account and have “Sync Library” enabled. You can turn on Sync Library by going to the Music app’s settings.
Two things I dislike about the Pin feature
- Tapping a pinned song doesn’t play it immediately; instead, it opens that song’s page, and you have to tap again to play it. You can address this to some extent by touching and holding the pinned item and then selecting Play, but this is definitely not as fast as simply tapping to start playback.
- There isn’t an option to play all the pinned items one after another in order. I have pinned my most loved tracks and playlists and would love to play them all in one or two taps.
