watchOS 10.4 release notes: Double tap to expand the notification, fixes for ghost touches and contacts syncing issues

If watchOS 10.4 release notes are anything to go by, this update is thin on major new features but Apple Watch users still get a few quality-of-life improvements.

The first enhancement worth mentioning is actually a fix for the annoying ghost touches bug that some Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 owners complained about.

The other noteworthy improvement is also reserved for Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 owners—the ability to set the double tap gesture to expand the notification.

watchOS 10.4 arrived on March 7, 2024. We’ve included the full release notes below, but yo can also read them in Apple’s support document.

watchOS 10.4 includes new features, improvements and bug fixes, including:

â—Ź Tap to Show Full Notification setting now allows you to double tap to expand the notification
â—Ź Using Apple Pay with Confirm with AssistiveTouch will require a passcode for additional security and will not support double clicking the side button
â—Ź Resolves an issue that causes some users to experience false touches on the display
â—Ź Fixes an issue that prevents contacts from syncing to Apple Watch for some users

How to update your Apple Watch to watchOS 10.4

To install watchOS 10.4, go to Settings > General  > Software Update on your watch or launch the companion Watch app on your iPhone, then select the My Watch tab, navigate to Settings > General  > Software Update and follow the onscreen instructions to download and install an over-the-air update.

You may be asked to enter your iPhone or Apple Watch passcode to continue. Be sure to leave the device on its charger while the update completes, which may take a while. After that, your Apple Watch will restart on its own.

Some features may not work in specific regions or on older Apple Watch models. For detailed information, visit the watchOS Feature Availability page on Apple’s website, then click a listed feature to see if it’s supported in your region and language.

If your Apple Watch model is capable of running watchOS 9, it will also run any watchOS 10.x version because hardware requirements haven’t changed.
