Tinge colorizes notification badges on jailbroken devices to match the app icon

A few years ago, we showed you a jailbreak tweak called ColorBadges that would automatically colorize your apps’ missed notification badges to match the dominant color of the icon itself. Fast-forward to today’s rootless-esque jailbreaks, and this tweak, which was designed to work on rootful jailbreaks, no longer works.

Fortunately, iOS developer P2KDev is now out with a new jailbreak tweak called Tinge that keeps this timeless concept alive, and it works with the latest rootless jailbreaks on iOS & iPadOS 15, 16, and even 17 where applicable.

While Tinge colorizes your apps’ missed notification badges to match the dominant color of the icon itself, just like ColorBadges did, one way that it differs is that it also dynamically adjusts the text color in the badge itself so that brighter badge colors invoke a darker text color while darker badge colors invoke a lighter text color.

The developer made this difference to improve legibility in certain aesthetic circumstances, and we believe that it helps improve the user experience.

For certain icons, such as folders, ColorBadges won’t go by the dominant color of the icon itself, but rather it will use the color of the app icon inside of that folder with the highest number of missed notifications. The developer notes in the tweak’s depiction page that the same thing will happen in the App Library.

As of right now, Tinge doesn’t come with any options to configure, but there are plans to add options in a future update. For example, the developer plans to give users the ability to turn off the border color by way of a toggle switch in the Settings app.

If you’re interested in giving Tinge a try, then you can purchase it for $0.99 from the Havoc repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 15, 16, and 17 devices.
