Meowbrek2 updated to v1.1.7-beta to allow use on iOS 15.8.1

iOS developer @dora2ios surprised all of us Sunday afternoon with another update to meowbrek2, a re-jailbreaking utility for palera1n rootless for arm64 devices (iPhone X and older running iOS & iPadOS 15.x.

Meowbrek2 v1.1.7-beta released.

The latest version of meowbrek2 is now version 1.1.7-beta, and according to an announcement in the project’s Discord server by the lead developer, this update is intended to add support for iOS & iPadOS 15.8.1.

It does this by rewriting the version checks, so the app will run on iOS & iPadOS 15.8.1. Worthy of note, however, is that the developer hasn’t guaranteed that it will in fact work as expected — this is something that prospective users will need to test for themselves.

The meowbrek2 utility effectively turns any rootless palera1n jailbreak into a semi-untethered jailbreak, removing the need for a computer to return to a jailbroken state after rebooting your device.

The tool can also be used as a semi-untethered jailbreak right out of the box, so you don’t necessarily need to jailbreak with palera1n first, although it is highly recommended per the GitHub page.

According to the developer, meowbrek2 is essentially an arm64 version of the Dopamine v1.0 arm64e jailbreak, but with the major difference being in the “kcall.”

If you’re an existing user, then you can download and update to the latest release by getting the latest .tipa file from the GitHub page and using TrollStore to perma-sign it over your existing installation.

New users can do the same, although they’ll be installing it for the first time instead of over the top of an existing installation.
