Serotonin, one of the tweak injection methods for the RootHide development team’s Procursus-based bootstrap for kfd & CoreTrust bug-vulnerable devices, also known as a “semi-jailbreak,” picked up an update to version 1.1.0 on Monday with some substantial changes.
As you might recall from the first news post we made on Serotonin, the project originally only supported arm64e devices running iOS & iPadOS 16.2-16.6.1. But starting with version 1.1.0, Serotonin now supports iOS & iPadOS 16.0-16.1.2 as well, which means all versions of iOS & iPadOS 16 from 16.0-16.6.1 are now supported on arm64e devices.
It’s also worth noting that Serotonin and Mineek’s kfdfunv4 projects have effectively merged into one single project, which helps to condense a quickly cluttered project space into a single, more centralized project.
In addition to the new support for iOS & iPadOS 16.0-16.6.1, Serotonin brings other improvements as well, including:
– Added patchfinder using tihmstar’s libpatchfinder ported to iOS, libiospatchfinder
– All arm64e devices should work now, as device-specific offsets are no longer needed
As it would also seem, there are still plans to add arm64 support (A9-A11, or checkm8 devices) to Serotonin; however, we should mention that the palera1n jailbreak already exists for these device and firmware combinations.
In any case, it’s great to see tools maturing as we continue to wait for a full-fledged jailbreak for arm64e devices running iOS & iPadOS 16.0-16.6.1 amid the recent PPL bypass release. That said, these tools, if used very carefully to prevent boot-looping, can act as stop-gaps.
