Browsing apps and games on the App Store is easier on iOS 17.2 with a new navigation bar at the top for scrolling through various categories.

Various app categories are lined up alongside the top of the screen, allowing you to scroll through them and quickly jump to one you’re interested in. Categories in the Apps section include sub-sections like Entertainment, Productivity, Education, Utilities, Photo & Video, Music, etc.

In the Games section, relevant categories you might encounter at the top include gaming genres like Racing, Adventure, Puzzle, Casual, Role-Playing, Simulation, etc. These app categories are the same as ones that are available at the bottom of the Apps and Games sections, by clicking See All next to Browse Categories.

iOS 17.2’s App Store adds a top bar for app categories

In earlier iOS versions, only the Arcade section had the top bar to navigate game categories. In iOS 17.2 the top navigation bar in the Arcade section has been refreshed with new iconography and scrollable cards instead of text links.

The new top navigation bar is also found in iPadOS 17.2’s App Store. On the Mac, browsing categories of apps and games has always been easy by selecting Categories in the sidebar. This was first spotted by @aaronp613 on X.

Apple is currently testing iOS 17 ahead of public release in a few weeks. When it launches, you can install it by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

iOS 17.2 brings several significant new features

iOS 17.2 will be an important release with several significant improvements that didn’t make it into iOS 17.0. For exemplar, some of the new features available with iOS 17.2 include Apple’s new Journal app, collaborative Apple Music playlists, messaging improvements, Apple Music changes and more.

iOS 17.2 also includes support for capturing spatial videos with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which will be playable in stereoscopic 3D on the $3500 Vision Pro headset when it launches early next year.
