Netflix’s Basic and Premium plans are now $12 and $23 per month

Netflix also jacked up prices of Basic and Premium subscriptions in the UK and France. Prices for the Ads and Standard plans haven’t changed.

Say hello to another Netflix price hike! The company just adjusted pricing in the United States, the United Kingdom and France, effective immediately.

On the bright side, prices for Ads and Standard will stay the same at $7/month and $15.49/month, respectively. Netflix argues that the Ads subscription is “extremely competitive with other streamers.” This tier, the most affordable offering from Netflix, costs “much less than the average price of a single movie ticket.”

Netflix boosts the prices of its Basic and Premium plans

The Basic subscription now costs $12/month in the United States, up from $10/month. Similarly, the flagship Premium plan has jumped from $19 to $23/month.

Netflix Premium is the company’s only subscription that supports streaming in 4K resolution, so prepare to pay $3/month more to continue streaming in 4K.

Meanwhile, customers in the United Kingdom will now need to fork out £8/month, or £18/month for the Premium subscription. In France, Netflix Basic and Premium are now priced at €11/month and €20/month, respectively.

As a result of these changes, Netflix’s price structure has changed in the United States, the United Kingdom and France as follows:

  • Netflix Ads: $6.99 / £4.99 / €5.99
  • Netflix Basic: $11.99 / £7.99 / €10.99
  • Netflix Standard: $15.49 / £10.99 / €13.49
  • Netflix Premium: $22.99 / £17.99 / €19.99

“We mostly paused price increases as we rolled out paid sharing.” Netflix ended password sharing in favor of paying extra for streaming to multiple homes.

“As we deliver more value to our members, we occasionally ask them to pay a bit more,” the company wrote in its shareholder letter [PDF document].

In January 2022, Netflix killed the $10/month ad-free Basic plan for new and relapsed users. The unpopular move forced everyone to pay more to avoid ads.

Still, cracking down on password sharing and widening the price umbrella has positively affected the company’s bottom line, with 8.76 million new subscribers picked up in the last quarter. Netflix now has 247.15 million total subscribers.
