This new jailbreak tweak animates SF Symbols on iPadOS 17 devices

We only just started to see jailbreak tweaks for iPadOS 17 starting this week, and the same developer (pookjw) is out this week with another intriguing release called AnimatedSFSymbol to animate all your device’s SF symbols.

AnimatedSFSymbol gif example.

As you can see in the animated GIF example above, shared with us by the developer, AnimatedSFSymbol animates the symbols that make up many of the user interfaces found throughout the operating system. That’s because most of these user interfaces are using the SF Symbol font.

In the video above, you can see the animations taking place in the Control Center toggle buttons, which use SF Symbols, as well as the Status Bar. These animations take effect system-wide.

The animations are fun and quirky, adding a new dynamic to your device that you’d never dream of having from Apple out of the box on a stock device.

It’s worth noting that AnimatedSFSymbol is only intended for jailbroken iPadOS 17 devices, and namely only those that can be jailbroken with the palera1n jailbreak tool. Currently, the short list of supported devices includes the following:

  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad (7th generation)
  • 10.5-inch iPad Pro
  • 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation)

Currently, there aren’t any iPhones that can run this tweak, as iOS 17 doesn’t have a jailbreak yet.

The AnimatedSFSymbol jailbreak tweak is available for free on the developer’s GitHub page, where it’s also open source for anyone interested in learning more about how it works. Upon downloading the .deb file, it can be installed on your compatible device via a package manager or file manager app.
