New Taurine jailbreak beta release adds support for iOS 14.4-14.8.1 via kfd exploit

In an interesting turn of events for anyone still using an iOS or iPadOS 14 device, it seems that former jailbreak developer CoolStar has started implementing support for the new kfd exploit into the Taurine jailbreak tool for various devices.

CoolStar Taurine v1.1.7 beta 1.

In an announcement shared in the Sileo Discord server, shown above, CoolStar shared an .ipa file of Taurine version 1.1.7 beta 1 which appears to utilize the kfd exploit and has been validated to work on the following device subsets:

  • arm64e iOS & iPadOS 14.0-14.3
  • arm64 iOS & iPadOS 14.0-14.8.1

From what we can gather, the above device subsets have been validated, while arm64e devices running iOS or iPadOS 14.4 or later have not been. While those devices may work, they haven’t been tested, so CoolStar warns that mileage may vary with those device and firmware combinations.

Since the Taurine jailbreak tool always only supported up to and including iOS & iPadOS 14.3 previously, this news means that jailbreakers have another option besides unc0ver to jailbreak iOS & iPadOS 14.4 and later, excluding iOS & iPadOS 15.

CoolStar recommends continuing to use the stable Taurine v1.1.6 unless you absolutely need the kfd exploit support.

Taurine has long been touted as a stable jailbreak option, and it’s use of the Sileo package manager app and libhooker tweak injection method are preferred by many.

It remains to be seen if CoolStar plans to release any newer betas or affirm support for arm64e devices running iOS & iPadOS 14.4 and later, but given the fact that she technically quit the jailbreak community, it seems unlikely that she will be spending any significant time on the project.

As it stands right now, CoolStar’s Cheyote jailbreak project for iOS 15.0-15.1.1 remains cancelled, with Dopamine for arm64e devices and palera1n for arm64 devices filling those shoes instead.

In any case, Taurine’s newfangled support for the kfd exploit is good news because it presents prospective jailbreakers with additional options. This further enhances jailbreak availability for those looking to try the hobby out.

Will you be using the latest Taurine beta now that it supports more device and firmware combinations by way of the kfd exploit? Let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
