To win the 2023 National Parks award, you must log at least a 20-minute or longer hike, walk, run or wheelchair workout using the Workout app on your Apple Watch or any third-party app that writes data to Apple’s Health app database.

This challenge is limited to customers in the United States. However, you may be able to see it with regional preferences set to United States in Settings > General > Language & Region > Region on both your iPhone and Apple Watch.

Customers will receive a notification on their wrist ahead of time:

Let’s get out and celebrate national parks everywhere. On August 26, earn this award by recording a workout of 20 minutes or more with any app that adds workouts to Health.

Completing the challenge will earn you a virtual medal that you can view in the Fitness app on your iPhone or Apple Watch and animated stickers for spicing up your FaceTime and iMessage conversations across devices.

The challenge honors the US National Park Service, founded on August 25, 1916, to “preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.” So far, it’s expanded into more than 400 national parks.

Apple issues this kind of challenge every August, and last year was no exception. The company will also celebrate national parks in the United States later this month with themed selections of music, books, apps and more.
