SwipeExtenderX keyboard enhancing tweak picks up rootless jailbreak support

Anyone who remembers the fantastic SwipeExtenderX jailbreak tweak that we showed you back in 2020 will know that it offered a seriously great upgrade to an already fantastic mobile keyboard.

SwipeExtenderX

But as modern jailbreaks begin moving into rootless territory, many jailbreak tweaks such as SwipeExtenderX are having to adapt to work on those jailbreaks.

Fortunately, iOS developer MiRO92 has just released version 1.6 of SwipeExtenderX, as announced on /r/jailbreak, which adds full support for rootless jailbreaks like Dopamine and palera1n.

Just like the original release, the latest version of SwipeExtenderX lets you assign specific tasks to different keys on your keyboard so that when you swipe up on those keys, the designated action takes place.

Among the different things you can assign to keys on your iPhone’s keyboard are:

  • Insert text
  • Select word
  • Select all
  • Cut
  • Copy
  • Paste
  • Undo
  • Redo
  • Delete forward
  • Delete word
  • Dismiss autocorrect
  • Dismiss keyboard
  • Open menu (shows a list of customizable actions)
  • Move cursor to beginning
  • Move cursor to end
  • Toggle dictation
  • Invoke an Activator action
  • Show CopyLog (if you have this tweak)
  • Insert the current date

Outside of being able to map specific functions to individual keys on your keyboard, SwipeExtenderX even lets you customize the keyboard with user-designated labels and user-selected colors.

While there’s no shortage of keyboard-enhancing jailbreak tweaks for the iPhone that try to add all the features that Apple hasn’t yet, we think SwipeExtenderX is one of the most useful options out there. Just keep in mind that it won’t play nicely with most other keyboard tweaks, so you’ll need to choose wisely.

Those interested in giving the latest version of SwipeExtenderX a try can get it from MiRO92’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 14, 15, and 16 devices.

Anyone that isn’t already taking full advantage of MiRO92’s personal repository can add it to their package manager app of choice by using the URL provided below:

Note: You will need the ColorPicker dependency from the P2K repository to use SwipeExtenderX to its fullest. We’ve included that repository for you below:
