SearchDots ports iOS 16’s Home Screen search pill to jailbroken iOS 15 devices

One of the neat new features in iOS & iPadOS 16 is the ability to access Spotlight search from your Home Screen by tapping on the little search pill at the bottom of your Home Screen where the page dots would ordinarily be.

It’s a convenient way to find stuff on your iPhone or iPad, but if you’re jailbroken on the older iOS or iPadOS 15 firmware, either by way of Dopamine or palera1n-c, then you won’t find this handy feature without installing a new and free jailbreak tweak called SearchDots by iOS developer NightWind.

Indeed, SearchDots can port iOS & iPadOS 16’s new Home Screen-centric search pill to pwned iOS & iPadOS 15 devices, making it just one more jailbreak tweak that can help you imitate a newer firmware user experience on an older version of iOS or iPadOS so that your device continues to feel freshly updated without software updates.

Unlike the regular search pill on an iOS or iPadOS 16 device, however, SearchDots comes with a few different options to configure in a dedicated preference pane:

Here, you can configure a few different options to your liking, such as:

  • Enabling or disabling SearchDots on demand
  • Choosing whether the search pill opens Spotlight search or the App Library
  • Configuring a custom Y (vertical) offset via a slider

With the ability to choose whether you search Spotlight or the App Library, you can either find files or other things on your iPhone or specifically look for apps that aren’t on your primary Home Screen. It’s also pretty neat that you can change the vertical offset, since this may help with certain custom Home Screen layouts.

If you’re interested in giving the new SearchDots jailbreak tweak a try, then you can download it for free from the Chariz repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 15 devices.
