Tomaito, TimeWave, Albums, and other apps to check out this weekend

It’s the weekend again, and I’m super excited that it’s time for another one of our Apps of the Week roundup. This week we have some awesome picks for you, including an AI-infused cookbook, a powerful time-keeping companion, and a beautiful music app. And as always, we’ve selected a fun new game for you to check out.

Tomaito

And the award for the most original use of Ai goes to…Tomaito (get it, that’s Tomato with Ai in it). It seems the desire to insert ChatGPT into everything has finally hit the recipe makers. This app uses GPT-3.5 and Dall-E-2 algorithms to generate delicious and creative recipes tailored to your preferences. You can look for recipes based on diet, dish type, cuisine, cooking time or difficulty, or available ingredients. You get 10 recipes for free, but after that you have to start making in-app purchases.

TimeWave – Time Manager

This isn’t just another timer app. This is your favorite timer app’s favorite timer app. With TimeWave, you can create sequential timers for tasks like cooking, productivity and custom workouts. This way you don’t have to reset a single timer at the end of every task. You can simply create a workflow in TimeWave that includes multiple timers at specific intervals. The all black and white design is stunning, there are tons of icons for quick input and customization, and you also get powerful edit and shortcut features. Yeah, I might just start randomly timing stuff this weekend — that’s how cool this app looks.

Albums – Music Library

Remember the original iPhone OS? All of your music was stored in the iPod app, and it was very simple and focused: this is where your purchased/downloaded music was, and while you could filter/sort it in various ways, most of us listened and browsed by album. Today, the Apple Music app is extremely bloated with algorithms, playlists, and other stuff that isn’t your music. Albums is an app that wants to restore the simplicity of listening to music. It’s beautifully designed, it’s focused, it has a powerful search feature, and it connects to Apple Music. Yeah, this is the perfect app to check out this weekend.

Sid Meier’s Railroads!

Sid Meier’s Railroads! has finally made its way to mobile! It’s a mix of model train set and railway management simulator, where you must lay tracks and optimize routes to establish lucrative networks of cities and industries, and ultimately become history’s greatest rail baron. Frequent readers of this column know I typically highlight free or very cheap games so readers can, and will, actually play them, but I am happy to make an exception here. Even if you think trains sound boring, strategy/simulator titles don’t get much better than Sid Meier. This, too, seems like the perfect app (or game) to check out this weekend.
