ETHN releases rootless edition of popular StepUp volume button sensitivity jailbreak tweak

If you’re using a rootless iOS 15 or iOS 16 jailbreak, then you might want to turn your attention to the likes of a new and free jailbreak tweak called StepUp-Rootless by iOS developer ETHN.

StepUp volume level.

StepUp-Rootless is the rootless jailbreak-supported version of ETHN’s widely popular StepUp jailbreak tweak, which lets users change how much of an impact on volume level that each press of the volume up or volume down button will have.

For example, pressing a volume up or volume down button ordinarily has a tiny impact on your overall volume level, but with StepUp-Rootless, you can make it so that each button press changes the volume level by higher amounts, such as 25% or 50% at a time, just to cite some examples.

This tweak comes in handy if you think it takes too long to get to the optimal volume level in a pinch, or if you want to fine tune your volume buttons even more than they are currently for more granular volume level control without using Control Center sliders.

Once installed, StepUp-Rootless adds a deviated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure the tweak to suit their needs:

StepUp-Rootless options to configure.

Here, users will be able to:

  • Enable or disable StepUp-Rootless on demand
  • Adjust the volume button step amount when using the speaker via a slider
  • Adjust the volume button step amount when using headphones via a slider

When adjusting the sliders, it’s impotent to note that dragging the slider further to the left makes each volume button press less effective, while dragging the slider further to the right makes each volume button press more effective. Effectiveness in this context simply means having more or less impact on the volume level per button press.

An apply button at the top-right of the preference pane in the form of a check mark button allows the user to save and apply their changes.

While this version of the tweak is intended for rootless jailbreaks, it’s just as effective as the original tweak on non-rootless jailbreaks. We especially like that developers are beginning to transition their work to the rootless dynamic, as this appears to be the future of jailbreaking.

Those interested in giving StepUp-Rootless a try for themselves can download the tweak for free from ETHN’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. The tweak only supports rootless iOS 15 and 16 jailbreaks.
