Developer-centric palera1n jailbreak for iOS 15.x silently updated to v1.2.0, fixes deep sleep bug for some

With all the exciting news circulating in the jailbreak community recently, it would have been easy to miss a silent update to the developer-centric palera1n checkm8 bootrom exploit-based jailbreak tool for iOS 15.x, which appears to have received a recent and unannounced upgrade to version 1.2.0.

According to the change log on the project’s GitHub, palera1n version 1.2.0 was released over the weekend and incorporates the following changes when compared with version 1.1.1, the latter of which dropped more than a week ago:

– Fix deep sleep bug
– Numerous miscellaneous fixes
– Let Pogo install tweak support

We asked palera1n team developer @itsnebulalol for details about this update, namely regarding the lack of an announcement for it, and the update’s experimental nature was cited as the primary reason for the silent release. It seems that while the deep sleep bug has been fixed for some people after installing version 1.2.0, the bug is still present for others, so the team continues to search for a more inclusive solution.

The palera1n jailbreak in and of itself is an experimental jailbreak, which is why it’s intended only for developers. It’s a tethered jailbreak that requires the use of a computer after every reboot to return to a jailbroken state, and it’s also worth noting that while the jailbreak supports checkm8-susceptible iOS & iPadOS 15.0-15.7 devices of the A9-A11 varieties, tweak injection only works on up to iOS & iPadOS 15.3.1. Passcode and biometric authentication methods such as Face ID and Touch ID do not work on A10 or A11 devices.

Sileo is used as the package manager for the palera1n jailbreak as of right now, and Substitute is used for tweak injection. Due to how tweak injection is implemented in this jailbreak, some older jailbreak tweaks will work on it. A list of working tweaks is actively maintained on a separate GitHub page.

Comparatively, rootless jailbreaks currently under development for iOS & iPadOS 15, such as Cheyote by the Odyssey Team, do not support any jailbreak tweaks currently. These tweaks will need to be updated to support the rootless dynamic.
