The next AirPods Pro are coming soon

The next AirPods Pro are getting announced alongside the iPhone 14 family and the Apple Watch Series 8 on Wednesday, according to sources who spoke to reliable Apple journalist Mark Gurman. “I reported last year that new AirPods Pro would arrive in 2022, and now I’m told that Wednesday will be their big unveiling,” Gurman wrote in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter on Bloomberg.

What features will AirPods Pro 2 have?

If you trust the rumors, the next-generation AirPods Pro will retain the overall design but introduce some new features thanks to Apple’s upgraded H1 headphone chip.

Both power consumption and performance should improve as a result. More importantly, the upcoming earbuds are said to detect the user’s heart rate from within the ear which should enable some fitness-tracking functions.

One of the more unsurprising new features for the next AirPods Pro is support for the Find My network and a speaker on the charging case to make it possible to track down lost earbuds via audible alerts. Also, these updated earbuds might bring support for Apple’s lossless audio codec to permit Apple Music fans to enjoy higher-quality audio. Read: How to get your AirPods battery replaced

Will the next AirPods Pro have USB-C?

Don’t expect a switch to USB-C this year, however, because the upgraded AirPods Pro earbuds are said to retain Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector for charging the charging case. Will the original model discontinue?

Also, don’t expect the current model to be available at a lower price when the second-generation one launches, as per reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

As to when the second-generation AirPods Pro earbuds might be available to purchase, we think they’ll arrive alongside the iPhone 14 family on Friday, September 16. We know this because Apple told some managers at its retail stores to prepare for a major new product release on September 16.
