Apple’s 35W charger has dual USB-C ports

The 35W power adapter sports two USB-C Power Delivery ports for charging two devices at once. It comes in standard and compact sizes. Apple is going to bundle the compact version of the charger with the MacBook Air when configured with an M2 chip with a ten-core GPU and 512GB of storage. What’s the difference between the compact and standard 35W charger?

Why does the Apple 35W charger come in two sizes?

The standard-sized version of Apple's 35-watt power adapter can be paired with the company's World Travel Adapter Kit for use anywhere in the world

Apple’s 35W power adapter comes in standard and compact sizes, and both are priced the same—$59 in the US—so what’s the difference? None actually apart from size (obviously) and availability. The compact version of the power adapter is only available in the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand. By contrast, its standard-sized counterpart can be freely used in other regions around the world if you pair it with Apple’s World Travel Adapter Kit (sold separately). Because of its small size, the compact version cannot be used with prong adapters found in the World Travel Adapter Kit. Read: How to convert HEIC images to the JPG format

How to buy Apple’s 35W power adapter

You can purchase Apple’s new 35W Dual USB-C Port charger or any of the company’s other chargers in several ways. The first and the most obvious choice is the company’s online store at apple.com. Alternatively, you can shop for your chargers in the Apple Store app [App Store link] on your iPhone and iPad. Authorized resellers also offer Apple’s chargers, as do Amazon and other sellers.

35W vs. 67W: Which Apple charger is for you?

The 35W Dual USB-C charger is great for simultaneously charging two not-so-power-hungry devices, like two iPhones or an iPhone and an Apple Watch or your notebook and phone. Due to its compact size and folded prongs, it’s easy to carry around and slip into your purse or bag. Apple recommends using the 35W dual USB-C charger with the M2 MacBook Air, but you can also use it with your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods. Read: How to check your AirTag battery charge

The 67W USB-C power adapter [Apple Store link] is obviously more powerful than its 35W counterpart. It’s bundled with the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro and required to fast-charge an M2 MacBook Air’s battery from zero to fifty percent juice in 30 minutes. You’ll also need this adapter to charge the 2016 or later 13-inch MacBook Pro or the 14-inch MacBook Pro configured with an M1 Pro chip with an eight-core CPU. The M2 MacBook Air has two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports that can be used to charge the notebook. However, it also comes with a MagSafe port, meaning you can charge the machine without taking up one of the Thunderbolt ports. For that purpose, the M2 Air is bundled with a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable. Additionally, the Cupertino company is offering this cable separately. You can purchase it in silver, space grey, starlight and midnight to match the styling of your notebook.

One end of the cable plugs into your charger and the other snaps magnetically to a computer’s MagSafe 3 port. The cable supports fast-charging capabilities and utilizes a woven design for long-lasting durability. An LED on the connector turns amber when the battery is charging and green when it’s fully charged.
