Apple Watch Series 8 said to adopt a new design with a flat display

Remember before the Apple Watch Series 7 was announced, and the rumor mill was telling us Apple was going to introduce a brand new design? With a flat display? Well, that didn’t turn out to be the case. But maybe this year is the year it happens.

According to the leaker “ShrimpApplePro“, that’s going to be the case with this year’s iteration of the popular smartwatch. The individual says the Apple Watch Series 8 is going to boast a brand new design, and that it will boast a flat display compared to the slightly curved option that we have now.

Jon Prosser of the YouTube channel Front Page Tech (FPT) rounded up the information originally shared by ShrimpApplePro. Of course, most of it is what we’ve heard in the past regarding the design, in that it will certainly boast a new look, but still be recognizable as an Apple Watch.

There’s still some room for change, and Apple may not go this particular route with the Apple Watch after all. But, based on the information at hand, it certainly sounds like the flat-edged Apple Watch could be making its big debut before the end of this year. It’s also worth noting that while the initial expectations were that the new design would end up arriving with the Apple Watch Series 7, it could always be pushed back to the Series 8.

Now, which Apple Watch model actually gets a design refresh remains to be seen. Word on the street is that the company is going to launch three new variants this year, with the Apple Watch Series 8 being joined by a rugged variant called the Apple Watch Explorer Edition and a second-generation Apple Watch SE. It’s possible the more rugged option boasts the flat-edged and flat display design, to really help it stand out. Not that a rugged case wouldn’t help with that by default.

But, we’ll have to wait and see how it goes. Based on the designs pictured here, are you hoping this new design actually sees the light of day?
