Apple launches nine new Apple TV screen savers

There are now nine new Aerial screen savers available for all Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K owners to use. Just like the current screen savers, the newly added ones offer a bird’s eye view of various landscapes around the world. These include three featuring the coast of Scotland’s Isle of Skye and six with views of Iceland’s landscapes, MacRumors reports.

No software update is necessary to start using these new Aerials.

How to manage your Apple TV screen savers

To change your Apple TV screen saver, choose the screen saver theme, select how often these aerial videos are downloaded and more, use tvOS Settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your Apple TV.
  2. Choose “General” from the list.
  3. Select “Screen Saver”, then choose “Themes”.
  4. Select a theme that you’d like to include in your Aerials.

You can show a location while the Aerial screen saver is playing by tapping the touch surface of your Siri remote. To switch between Aerial locations while the screen saver is playing, simply swipe left or right on the touch surface.

Apple TV automatically downloads new Aerials as they become available, depending on available free storage. To adjust how often new Aerials are downloaded, go to Settings → General → Screen Saver and select Download New Video to change your settings.

How to get Apple TV screen savers on your Mac

macOS does not support tvOS screen savers. But with a little help from John Coates’ free Aerial Companion app, you can enjoy those very same screen savers on your Mac.

After downloading and double-clicking the Aerial.saver file to install the screen saver, you can open System Preferences → Desktop & Screen Saver. From there, select the new Aerial screen saver to adjust the various options to your liking.

For example, you can choose the location and time of day for each Aerial, as well as select which Aerials will be downloaded in advance.

Download Aerial Companion from Coates’ GitHub page.
