Apple TV+ film ‘On the Rocks’ is coming soon to DVD and Blu-ray

One of the things Apple TV+ needs is a library of content, which will help keep people subscribed to the service when they run out of new Ted Lasso episodes to watch. Which is why, normally, you won’t see any of the films or TV series get a physical release. But it looks like On the Rocks, which stars Rashida Jones and Bill Murray, is going that route anyway.

The news of the upcoming physical release for the drama was first surfaced by Sigmund Judge of Screen Times over on Twitter. He initially broke the news earlier this month, but it was this week that it was actually confirmed that a physical release of the film was set to arrive this October. Specifically, it will arrive on DVD and on Blu-ray discs on October 26.

You can pre-order the Blu-ray version of the film via Amazon right now. It’s listed for $17.99.

And here’s the official trailer for the film, as a refresher:

On the Rocks is a notable film in its own right, telling the story of a young woman (Jones) who reunites with her playboy father (Murray) as they make their way through New York City. However, it also reunites Murray and director Sofia Coppola who last worked together on the drama Lost in Translation many years ago.

This is the first Apple TV+ movie to be released on physical media up to this point. However, this is not the first Apple TV+ content to get a release on a disc. Defending Jacob, which stars Chris Evans, saw a DVD release as well.

It’s also worth noting that if you want to watch On the Rocks in Dolby Vision and with Dolby Atmos, you’ll still need to do that via Apple TV+.
