Google Chrome for iOS finally adds widget support

Sometimes, Google is pretty quick when it comes to offering support for Apple’s software (and hardware). And other times it drags its feet. When it comes to widget support, it’s a little bit of both.

Back in November of 2020, Google got around to detailing widget support for a range of its iOS apps. Of the four apps, Google detailed in a blog post that two would offer support for widgets right out of the gate, Google Drive and Google Fit. Meanwhile, Google’s other iOS apps, Calendar and Chrome, would have to wait until sometime in early 2021.

And that time has arrived. For Chrome. Today, Google released version 90 of the mobile web browser for iOS and, with it, the app now supports iOS 14‘s widgets.

There are three widget options for iOS users. The large option offers the ability to quickly type into the search field or launch a website, launching incognito mode, and more. There’s also a smaller option for launching a search query. And, finally, a single tile to play the Chrome Dino game.
