Spotify is raising prices on several of its plans

Spotify‘s pricing has stayed relatively stable for many years, but now a change is coming to several of its different plan options.

The majority of changes are arriving in Europe and in the United Kingdom, according to The Verge. Apparently customers are starting to receive emails, including those in the United States, that a price hike is coming to their selected plan. The silver lining for customers in the U.S. is that the changes are minimal in that region, with only a slight price increase coming to the Family plan.

The changes are more sweeping in Europe and UK. According to the report, Spotify is raising the price point for Student, Duo, and Family plans.

Price hike in the U.S.

As mentioned above, the changes for Spotify customers in the U.S. are minimal. According to the original report, Spotify is raising the price of the Family plan from $14.99 per month to $15.99 per month. Spotify says the price increase will roll out beginning Friday, April 30, 2021.

As it stands right now, price changes are apparently not on the docket for Premium, Duo, or Student plans. However, with changes to some of these plans going into effect across the ocean, it’s possible they can change in the U.S. down the road, too.

Plan changes in Europe and the UK

Meanwhile, Spotify is making more changes in this region. Just as it is in the United States, price changes will go into effect on Friday, April 30, 2021. In the UK, Spotify is increasing the price of its student plan from £4.99 to £5.99 per month. Meanwhile, the Duo subscription (which covers two individuals), is going from £12.99 to £13.99.

Finally, the Family plan, which covers six individuals, will go from £14.99 per month to £16.99 per month, the biggest price hike of the new plan prices.

And in Europe, Student and Duo plans are raising the price to €5.99 and €12.99 per month, respectively. And finally, the Family plan is going from €14.99 to €17.99 per month.

Spotify offered an official statement on the matter:

We offer a variety of subscription plans tailored to our users’ needs, and we occasionally update our prices to reflect local macroeconomic factors and meet market demands while offering an unparalleled service.

Spotify is still the leader when it comes to streaming music, with the service covering 150 million subscribers across the globe. And, it will be interesting to see what pricing looks like for the incoming Spotify Hi-Fi plan coming later this year.
