Apple TV+ orders ‘Number One on the Call Sheet’, a pair of new documentary films

Apple TV+ isn’t going to slow down on releasing documentaries, which has quickly become a major focal point for the streaming service. And, indeed, there are two more coming down the pipe.

Apple today announced that it is has ordered a pair of complimentary documentary films under the Number One on the Call Sheet banner. With Apple Original Films, the pair of documentary films will focus on the achievements made in the film industry by Black men and women.

Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Women in Hollywood will focus on the women. It is executive produced by Academy Award nominee Angela Bassett and Academy Award winner Halle Berry. The film will be directed by Shola Lynch (Free Angela and All Political Prisoners). The documentary film “explores and highlights the groundbreaking work of Black women actors of the past who paved the way for Bassett, Berry and so many more.”

The second film is Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood, and it will follow the same idea as the companion film. It will feature “the stories and experiences of Black male actors of the past who paved the way for Foxx, Hart and more.” This one’s being produced by Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, and others. It will be directed by Academy Award nominee Reginald Hudlin (The Black Godfather).

Both documentary films are making their way to Apple TV+ at some point in the future. However, there’s no release date penciled in quite yet. As soon as we know more, we’ll be sure to pass it along.
