Rocket League Sideswipe is bringing car soccer to iPhone and iPad

Rocket League is one of the most popular games on PC and consoles, blending automobiles and soccer (football!) in an innovative way. The title is exciting and lends itself to a lot of fun experiences, while offering plenty of competitive play, too. And now it’s finally coming to phones and tablets.

Announced today, developer Psyonix has revealed a new take on its popular game called Rocket League Sideswipe. The upcoming title will be available for both iOS and Android, with a smaller visual take on what fans have come to expect from the original title. Unfortunately, no release date to share quite yet.

The new game will be a smaller affair, namely in that it will host 1v1 or 2v2 matches that last about two minutes in length. Sideswipe will boast online multiplayer, and Psyonix says the game will be free to download and play.

Now, for the important bit: mobile gameplay. There will be a different camera perspective for Sideswipe players to get used to, and on-screen controls that have been optimized for mobile.

From today’s press release:

Rocket League Sideswipe will feature mobile controls that are easy to pick up whether you’re a master of Rocket League or a new player still learning your way around the field. Plus, there are advanced mechanics, just like Rocket League, for those who want to climb the Competitive Ranks. In the garage, Rocket League Sideswipe will have robust car customization similar to Rocket League. Players can also expect an online Ranking system for competitive play. We have a lot more to reveal about the game in the coming months as we get closer to release.

You can check out game footage from an alpha build of the new mobile experience above.

While Psyonix says no release date is nailed down quite yet, the developer says it wants to launch the title across the globe before the end of this year. So fingers crossed we get to experience the car football game on our iPhones and iPads sooner rather than later.
