YouTube is working on a fix for the ‘something went wrong’ errors popping up for some Apple TV users

If you use the YouTube app on your Apple TV, it’s possible you’ve encountered an error message that tells you “something went wrong”. That’s all the message says, though, so not a lot to go on. But it looks like YouTube is looking into it.

As reported today by 9to5Mac, after many folks weighed in on the problem, the official YouTube app for the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K is having some issues. Specifically, when users try to play a video in the app a pop-up message tells them “something went wrong” and won’t actually load or play the video.

At the time of publication, there does not appear to be a fix. And the issue appears to be widespread, too. It might not be impacting every single Apple TV user out there, but it’s certainly more than just a handful of users. It’s even made its way to the Apple Support Communities discussion forum.

Per the original report, one user weighs in:

For 2 days now, the YouTube app for Apple TV has not been working. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. The new version has not pushed to my Apple TV yet. Is there anything at all I can do?’

‘The Youtube app stopped working on apple tv 4k today 3/14/2021. I have 4 of them. They all stop.

However, there does appear to be a workaround, at least right now. One user in the discussion forum says that if a user deletes the YouTube app from the Apple TV HD and/or Apple TV 4K, reinstall it, and then logs into their YouTube account via the “using my phone” option, the problem appears to be alleviated for some users.

Still, YouTube says it is looking into the problem and working on a fix:
