‘Cherry’, starring Tom Holland, will premiere on Apple TV+ on March 12, 2021

Back in September, we found out that the Russo Brothers had a new film coming to Apple TV+ called Cherry. Unfortunately we didn’t know when the film would actually become available to watch at the time.

Well now we do. Sort of. According to SlashFilm, the upcoming film will premiere first in theaters on February 26 of next year. Once that limited theatrical run is finished, Apple TV+ will premiere the film for the streaming audience on March 12, 2021. This is one of the bigger releases for Apple’s streaming service, mostly because of the book the film is based on, and the creative team in front and behind the camera.

First and foremost, Cherry is based on the semi-autobiographical novel of the same name written by Nico Walker. It tells the story of an Army medic who returns home from the war, ultimately to be swept over by drug usage and, ultimately, become a bank robber to pay for the addition. Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming) is set to star, with Ciara Bravo (Small Engine Repair) set to star alongside Holland as his wife.

Here’s the description of the film from earlier this year:

Tom Holland plays a young Cleveland man who, after being spurned by the love of his life, joins the army before she returns to tell him she has made a mistake and they belong together. He becomes an Army medic in Iraq and sees violence and carnage no one should. Returning with a raging case of undiagnosed PTSD, he is prescribed the opiate Oxycontin. Soon, he and his young wife move from pills to heroin, and he turns to robbing banks to pay their debts and feed their habit. Walker’s young wife is played by Ciara Bravo (Small Engine Repair).

In addition to that, this is the first film that Anthony and Joe Russo have directed since the wide release of Avengers: Endgame, which went on to become the highest-grossing film of all time. The pair of produced other films, but Cherry is the first time they are back behind the cameras directing.

Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Jeff Wahlberg (Dora and the Lost City of Gold), Michael Rispoli (Rounders), Michael Gandolfini (Ocean’s 8), and Forrest Goodluck (The Revenant) are also set to star in the film.

We don’t have a trailer just yet, but that should change sooner rather than later.

Are you looking forward to checking out Cherry when it arrives, either in theaters or at home on Apple TV+?
