Verizon’s new iPhone 12 Pro commercial shows off the carrier’s ‘5G UW’ logo

During Apple’s announcement of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, the company took some time to let Verizon hype up 5G. Why? Well, obviously, the new iPhones support 5G.

So Verizon’s not going to slow down on this one, because, as the big red carrier says, “5G just got real”. It’s a catchy marketing slogan, for sure, and Apple will gladly ride along as it promotes its latest phones. For instance, the latest advertisement from Verizon for its 5G connectivity also showcases the iPhone 12 Pro, which you can see in its full Pacific Blue glory.

The ad also stars comedian, actor, writer, and producer Chris Rock (Dolemite is My Name, Lethal Weapon 4).

What’s noteworthy, though, is that we get to see Verizon’s logo for when the iPhone 12/iPhone 12 Pro is connected to the wireless carrier’s faster Ultra Wideband radio technology. This is the carrier’s variety of mmWave 5G technology, so it’s the fastest of the two 5G standards (sub-6GHz being the slower of the two). So when you do get a chance to connect to Verizon’s 5G UW network, you’ll see the logo at the top of this post next to the bars indicating your connection strength to the carrier network.

Here’s the ad:

Of course, Verizon launched its nationwide 5G coverage this week, too. This means access to the slower sub-6GHz 5G radio technology, but this one’s more widely available. The ad confirms that when you’re connected to the standard 5G network, Verizon’s logo will just show “5G” in the top-right corner.

Verizon’s 5G UW is geographically limited, especially right now, and it’s only available in select areas of specific cities. The carrier will continue to expand support as the months and years go on, but, for now, the fastest 5G from Verizon is limited in availability. Giving customers a quick and easy way to see that they’re on either the standard or fastest 5G connection at a glance is a welcomed tweak.
