Earlier in 2020, Apple launched a minor refresh for the iPad Pro lineup, introducing a LiDAR Scanner on the back of the pro-grade tablets but keeping most of everything else the same compared to the previous generation.
Which means there are still those out there waiting for a more robust upgrade, thanks to rumors and speculation circulated by the rumor mill on a regular basis. Take, for example, the latest report which suggests Apple is going to not only finally introduce a mini-LED display for the iPad Pro, but also adopt 5G and bump up the processor’s specifications as well.
The information was shared by Twitter user and reliable leaker @L0vetodream. The leaker says that the next iPad Pro upgrade will adopt the mini-LED display technology, while also equipping the tablets with Qualcomm’s X55 modem, giving them 5G support for both mmWave and sub-6Ghz technologies. L0vetodream says there will be two new models, one small and one big, which means Apple won’t be leaving either of the iPad Pro variants behind in next year’s upgrade.

Apple has been rumored to be moving away from LCD and OLED in its products for quite some time, shifting attention to mini-LED display technology. And this is not the first time that we’ve heard Apple’s transition to mini-LED could be delayed to 2021, with initial expectations that the company would get the iPad Pro with the upgraded screen out into the wild before the end of 2020.
And the iPad isn’t the only Apple-branded product said to be making the switch. According to past reports, Apple is working on up to six different products that will use mini-LED displays, including a 14.1-inch MacBook Pro. The other products include a switch from OLED (after the all OLED iPhone 12 lineup) for the iPhones, a 27-inch iMac Pro, new iPad mini, and the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
The leaker L0vetodream has become increasingly reliable as of late, especially with information regarding the new iPhone SE that Apple introduced earlier this year, so these rumors could indeed turn into reality early next year. Still, it is just a rumor so things could change between now and then.
