Apple Maps Indoor Maps Miami Airport Main

Apple Maps recently completed the rollout of its new design not too long ago, and it sounds like there may be more in the works.

According to a job listing for “Product Manager – Maps, Writer/Editor“, which has since been pulled by Apple but was preserved by The Verge beforehand, Apple is looking to add a bit of editorial curation to the Maps experience. Think of a feature similar to what we see in the App Store right now, with developer interviews and recommendations.

As noted in the original report, the information available on Apple Maps is largely sourced form third-party efforts like Wikipedia and Yelp. It would make sense that Apple would want to start offering up that information in-house, rather than relying on outside sources like that.

The job description summary reads as such:

Are you someone whoʼs looking to be a part of a team that wants to change the world? Do you possess a passion to think differently and challenge conventional approaches to problem solving? At Apple, weʼre focused on building phenomenal products that are beautiful, innovative, and help our customers improve their quality of life. As a Maps Writer/Editor, youʼll help build and grow a brand-new content category for the Apple Maps team working closely with key internal Apple stakeholders, as well as strategically meaningful external partners.

The position was posted on March 2, but it took Apple only a couple of days to remove it. It’s certainly noteworthy, especially considering the job description indicates this is definitely a “brand-new content category” for Apple Maps.

There’s no telling when this might actually roll out into Apple Maps. Considering this is the first we’re hearing about it, and, for whatever reason, Apple has pulled the job listing, it might be a bit of time.
