AirPods Pro

If you’re lucky enough to own a pair of Apple’s new AirPods Pro, then you already know just how great their active noise cancellation is in terms of augmenting your audio’s sound quality. On the other hand, we can think of a few different ways that the implementation in iOS could be improved in daily usage.

Enter Banana, a new and free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer LaughingQuoll that makes the AirPods Pro’s transition from active noise cancellation mode to transparency mode an automatic process, depending on what the user is doing.

The way Banana works is simple:

  • When the user begins listening to audio, active noise cancellation mode is activated automatically
  • When the user pauses or stops listening to audio, transparency mode is activated automatically

Banana doesn’t come with any options to configure, and this is, in part, due to the fact that the tweak is fully autonomous. Unfortunately, Banana doesn’t integrate any go-between for the ‘normal’ mode between active noise cancellation and transparency, but this is something that the user could enable by themselves if they wanted to.

People who listen to a lot of music and generally pause their songs when someone is talking to them will enjoy using Banana, as it eliminates the step of changing mode manually. Others who plan to use active noise cancellation as much as possible to mitigate nearby sounds will find that it takes some getting used to.

Notably, Banana is only intended for jailbreakers with AirPods Pro in their possession as active noise cancellation mode and transparency mode are virtually nonexistent on any other model of AirPods.

Those interested in trying Banana can download it for free from the Packix repository in their preferred package manager. The tweak is compatible with jailbroken iOS 12 and 13 devices.
