Activision launches ‘Call of Duty: Mobile’

Announced back in March of this year, with a beta first seeing the light of day in May, Activision’s newest entry in the storied Call of Duty franchise is now available on iOS and Android.

Activision has just launched Call of Duty: Mobile for Apple’s and Google’s mobile operating systems, bringing with it a wide range of content, primarily focused on multiplayer endeavors. There are a variety of maps to play on, with different game types to choose from — including a Battle Royale mode, the popular zombies game type, and more.

Activision, in collaboration with Tencent, today announced that Call of Duty®: Mobileis now available in all countries and regions where Google Play and App Store are supported with the exception of Mainland China, Vietnam, and Belgium. Developed by Tencent Games’ award-winning TiMi Studios and published by Activision, Call of Duty: Mobile delivers the definitive free-to-play, first-person action experience on mobile. For the first time, players will play many of the most beloved maps, competitive modes, iconic characters and signature weapons from across the franchise, including the Modern Warfare® and Black Opsuniverses, in one epic experience.

First, let’s just get this out of the way: as mentioned just above, this is a free-to-play title (F2P), which means you don’t have to pay anything upfront to play the title. However, there are in-app purchases (IAP), and a lot of them. You can buy things from between $0.99 and $99.99, with COD Points playing a big role in the game as well.

Today’s release is a celebration for our community around the world. We’re excited to share the Call of Duty experience with fans like never before,” stated Rob Kostich, president of Activision. “I congratulate the development team at TiMi Studios and our teams here who worked together to bring this great game to life. The community has a lot to look forward to as Call of Duty: Mobile grows and continues. This is just the beginning. There’s much more to come.

Activision’s press release says that additional (free) content will be released for the mobile game over time, including as part of seasonal updates, game modes, and more. What’s more, Activision says that even more free content can be unlocked if more people actually play the game. There is a section in the game that will let players track the global progress towards those unlocks.
