Apple’s spending for original content for Apple TV+ reportedly reaches $6 billion

Apple is investing quite a bit within its own services push, which will include Apple TV+ later this year. And according to a new report, Apple is spending a lot of money, too.

The Financial Times has the report on Monday, in which the publication states that Apple has apparently paid more than $6 billion for its own original television shows and films. The report is built upon information gathered from people “familiar with the matter”, so nothing is confirmed by Apple itself at this point.

A lot of numbers have been tossed around since there were initial reports regarding Apple’s push into original content, including $1 billion, and even around $4 billion. But apparently things are going well enough for Apple to hike that spending quite a bit.

Just from the initial looks we’ve seen of Apple TV+’s incoming content, including the latest trailer for The Morning Show, starring Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies) and Jennifer Aniston (Friends), it has definitely not looked like Apple is sparing any expense.

Speaking of, the upcoming series See, starring Jason Momoa (AquamanGame of Thrones), is reportedly buoyed by $15 million per episode spent by Apple.

As for a launch date, there is still nothing circled on the calendar. However, this report indicates that Apple wants to get a little bit of a head start on the upcoming Disney+ –which launches in November– so we should expect to see Apple TV+ arrive in the next couple of months.

While $6 billion is certainly a healthy number, and should help Apple keep the lights on for at least a while, it pales in comparison to what Netflix is spending. That company is reportedly spending upwards of $15 billion for the year on original content.
