This tweak replaces your iPhone’s ‘swipe up to unlock’ text with weather info

If you’ve been using an iPhone for more than a week, then you probably don’t need to be reminded to “swipe up to unlock” or “press home to unlock.” Apple designs its devices to display this text whenever you’re looking at your locked handset’s Lock screen, and to some, it feels unnecessary.

If you’re ready to rid yourself of that silly text with something more useful, then chances are you’ll come to appreciate a newly-released and free jailbreak tweak called WeatherUnlockText by iOS developer XCXiao. This tweak replaces the standard text string with weather information for your current location, as shown in the screenshot example above.

As you’ve probably discerned already, WeatherUnlockText replaced the ‘press home to unlock’ text on our Lock screen with “Sunny currently. It’s 83 degrees.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, the tweak does the same on Home buttonless handsets, which display ‘swipe up to unlock’ instead; here’s another example of that case:

The text fits nicely in between the native Flashlight and Camera shortcut buttons, and right above the Home Bar. More importantly, it displays useful information in place of something that’s arguably useless, and it does so in a subtle way.

If you’re a minimalist, and you appreciate having useful information on your Lock screen at first glance, then this is the tweak for you. It doesn’t come with any options to configure, and so what you see is essentially what you get.

Those interested in trying WeatherUnlockText can download it for free from the BigBoss repository in Cydia or Sileo. The tweak supports all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices and requires that you enable location access for the Weather application to work correctly.
