If you frequently use the official Instagram app on your jailbroken iPhone, then you might have something to gain from using a new free jailbreak tweak dubbed InstaNotifyFilter by iOS developer midkin.
As you might have already inferred from the tweak’s name, InstaNotifyFilter filters some of the more extraneous notifications you might receive in the Instagram app, and citing the tweak’s description, it specifically targets the following:
- Prevent Instagram from informing another user when you screenshot or record stories sent to you in Direct Messages (DMs)
- Remove all signs that a new Direct Message (DM) has been received (badges, red signs, banners, etc.)
In the screenshot examples above, the items annotated in red represent the types of notifications that InstaNotifyFilter hides from your Instagram experience. Some of the things shown include the banner at the top of the display, the little red dot in the Tab Bar, the notification badge in the Navigation Bar, among others.
In case you were wondering, InstaNotifyFilter is configurable to give you more control over what you see on Instagram and what you don’t. You’ll find a preference pane for the tweak in the Settings app after installation:
Here, you can:
- Toggle the screenshot filter (prevents other users from knowing when you screenshot or record media from their DMs)
- Toggle the new DM filter (prevents Instagram from displaying badges, banners, and more when you receive new DMs)
The developer includes a blue Apply Changes button at the bottom of the preference pane to append your changes. This does not respring your device, but you may want to force-quit and restart the Instagram app from your App Switcher before proceeding with your changes for good measure.
Admittedly, while some people might enjoy receiving these types of notifications, there are others who don’t; fortunately, InstaNotifyFilter provides a means of doing away with them. If you’re interested in trying InstaNotifyFilter for yourself, then you can download it for free from Cydia’s BigBoss repository.
Note: As of this writing, the tweak works with the latest version of the official Instagram app (version 73.0). Future updates could potentially break the tweak’s functionality, requiring an update from the developer.
