Photos showing colorful SIM trays leak purportedly for Apple’s 6.1-inch LCD iPhone Xr

Apple’s expected to reveal three new iPhone models tomorrow, Sept. 12. One of those, the so-called iPhone Xr, has long been expected to launch in multiple colors. Today, there’s possible proof of what some of those colors could be.

Images claiming to show the SIM trays of the 6.1-inch LCD were posted earlier today on Weibo. Although the photos are no longer available on the Chinese site, they remain on Ben Geskin’s Twitter feed.

As you can see above, these SIM trays show five colors: space gray, silver, red, blue, and brown. There are two interesting points worth mentioning about these colors, assuming they are correct.

First, if Apple announces a red iPhone Xr tomorrow, it would represent the first time Apple has released an iPhone in this color at the beginning of a model year. Previously (with the iPhone 7/7 Plus and iPhone 8/8 Plus), it released Product(RED) versions mid-cycle.

Second, can I just say how great the blue, and in particular, brown hues look? Perhaps I’m not the only one who feels this way. Geskin later posted an “awesome render” of the “Brown = Taupe” model, courtesy of AppleiDesigner shown here:

In addition to the iPhone Xr, Apple’s expected to reveal a 5.8-inch OLED iPhone Xs and 6.5-inch OLED iPhone Xs Max at tomorrow’s special event. These models are expected to arrive in spay gray, silver, and gold.

As a reminder, Apple’s “Gather round” event kicks off at 10 a.m. PDT from the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park Campus. For the first time, Apple is live streaming the event on Twitter. You can also watch the event on Apple TV and through a web browser.

Besides new iPhones, tomorrow’s event should include an appearance of the fourth-generation Apple Watch and perhaps the 2018 iPad Pro. On Monday, we put together a report explaining which products we expect Apple to announce on Wednesday. Some of our choices may surprise you.
