Kiyo, J-A-M, WSH LST, and other apps worth checking out this weekend

This week’s edition of our Apps of the Week roundup features a new kind of social media app, an app that lets you shake your iPhone to create music and a wish list for the App Store. And as always, we’ve selected two great new games for you to check out.

Kiyo

Feel exhausted by the current social media landscape? Maybe this app can help. Kiyo is a “personal media” app that was designed so you can engage meaningfully with the people that mean something to you. You’re more than just another story in other people’s feeds—you’re free to share the many different sides of yourself creatively, without pressure. Now I know there are other apps out there that have tried this, and all new social media apps face extremely tough odds, but it doesn’t hurt that Kiyo has a gorgeous UI and is backed by well-known actor and screenwriter B.J. Novak. Kiyo is available for free.

J-A-M

Meet J-A-M, a musical mirror of your movements. With this music-making app open, all you have to do is shake your iPhone and listen to your creation come to life. Features include drum samples from various genres like hip hop, jazz and electronic, and customizable response times. You can’t record the music (yet), but it’s still kind of fun playing the air drums with your phone. I imagine it would be even more fun to get multiple devices together and create a melody. J-A-M is available for free.

WSH LST

Miss the Wish List feature from the old App Store? This app, aptly named WSH LST, brings it back. After enabling the extension, you can add apps you want to buy at a later time and sync the list across all of your devices. You can also search through your wish list and sort it by date, title and price, and you can even see price changes—perfect for folks who want an app but would rather wait until it goes on sale to purchase it. WSH LST is available for free.

Let Them Come

Mow down waves of alien scum in the pixel-style survival mode shooter Let Them Come. You are a mercenary gun for hire, Rock Guner, sent on a mission by Infini Corp to take down the alien hordes on a spaceship. As wave after wave of progressively harder enemies ascend on you, will you be able to react fast enough, have the right fire power and the sheer grit and determination it will take to survive? The only way to find out, is to play. Let Them Come is available for $1.99.

Unlikely Heroes

Long long ago, in a land far far away, a vicious dragon came from above and destroyed everything in the land. The villagers have been waiting for a true hero to save them—could it be you? In Unlikely Heroes you must gather your band of heroes, rebuild the village, fight the dragon, and travel the world defeating evil. Features include challenging mazes, alchemy puzzles and much more. Unlikely Heroes is available for free (with some IAPs).
