Activity, Popcorn, Vellum, and other apps to check out this weekend

It’s Saturday again, and you know what that means. It’s time for another edition of our Apps of the Week roundup. This week we have some great selections for you, including an activity-tracker, a movie-finder and a wallpaper client. And as always, we’ve picked two great new games for you to check out.

Activity

Looking for a new app to help you become more productive? You may want to check out Activity. Sure there are already hundreds of these apps on the App Store, but I really like Activity’s UI design and ease of use. Its feature set checks most of the boxes you’d want in an activity tracker/habit former, and the Stats dashboard view allows you to see your progress at a glance. Activity is available for $2.99.

Popcorn

Can’t find anything to watch? Meet Popcorn. The app brings you amazing movies, handpicked for you every day. Whether you’re into cult classics or summer blockbusters, it has you covered. Just swipe through the options, watch trailers and save the movies you want to see. Then when you’re ready to watch them, a single tap allows you to rent or buy them on iTunes. Popcorn is available for free.

Vellum

I know, we’ve covered a few wallpaper apps lately, but I just can’t help sharing another one. This is Vellum, and it offers beautiful hand-picked backgrounds for your iPhone. You’ll get access to thousands of images, including limited edition art dropping regularly from top artists and designers, and you’ll have the ability to add your own blurring and gradient effects before. If you’re the type of person who likes customizing their iPhone wallpaper, check out Vellum. It’s available for free.

Bit City

Build your own Bit City! Start from a tiny town and grow to a thriving metropolis in this city building idle game from the creators of Tiny Tower. Collect profits and invest in upgrades that keep your city growing. Fill your city with new types of cars, planes and ships. Unlock cool new buildings, including famous landmarks to customize the look of your city. Bit City is available for free (some IAPs).

Twisty Sky

Looking for a new twist on the infinite runner genre? Check out the game Twisty Sky. Your goal is essentially to run up the tower, swiping the blocks to line up ladders and climb as high and as quickly as possible. Twart the evil Goonswarm by disconnecting ladders below you once you’ve climbed them, and use special tower blocks with fan blades, boxing gloves, escalators and more to send the Goonswarm flying. Over 25 oddball characters to unlock. Twisty Sky is available for free (one IAP).
