It’s business as usual for the struggling Internet pioneer Yahoo which today released a brand new free of charge iPhone and iPad application, called Newsroom. The app provides curated stories and news content relevant to you and sports built-in social sharing features, personalized feeds and more. The 96.9-megabyte download requires an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 9 or later and is available at no charge from the App Store.
In Newsroom, you can hit the Explore tab to find a range of topics, called Vibes. The more Vibes you follow, or post stories into them, the more tailored the app will become to your interests. You can choose from over 200 Vibes from a wide variety of sources: Yahoo, Buzzfeed, Wall Street Journal, NPR, Bloomberg, Huffington Post, among others.
As you select Vibes to follow, your newsfeed will adjust to include the stories and conversations that matter most to you. The more you follow and engage, the more content will be tailored to your interests.
Newsroom also lets you follow your stories about sports, business, technology, finance, lifestyle and the latest US and world news, including the 2016 Presidential campaign and election.
The My Feed tab collates all the news that is relevant to your location and lets you discuss it with a passionate community. If you sign in with your Yahoo account, you’ll also get the stories tailored to your interests.
Yahoo’s personalization technology ensures that people who share your interests will see your posts and be prompted to join the conversation, explained Yahoo, adding:
Yahoo has long been a world-class leader in developing algorithms to find and deliver news tailored specifically for you. With Newsroom, we’ve combined this best-in-class content from Yahoo and around the web with community empowerment: the platform that enables you to speak your mind, free from social pressure and engage in open discussion around what you see.
The app can also deliver optional personalized alerts for breaking stories and relevant conversations.
