The first time I had heard of the comedy website Funny or Die was after discovering Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s short film “The Landlord.” I’ve been a fan of the site ever since.
Today, the team that made famous such web series as Between Two Ferns and Drunk History has launched a weather app to bring a smile to your face, even on the cloudiest of days.
The Funny or Die Weather app is typical of the genre. The main screen shows the current temperature and conditions with the highs and lows for the day displayed on the same screen. Depending on the current temperature, the background palate will be based in warm or cool colors (like yellows and oranges on hot days, or greens and blues on cold days).
The thing that makes this app special from all others is the “Daily Reminder.” Every day, and in every different city, there is a Daily Reminder that includes some funny quip to brighten your day. For example, “If there is a large tiger on your clothes, you’re probably an idiot.”
If a Daily Reminder tickles your fancy, you can share it with others through Facebook, Twitter, and more thanks to iOS 8’s in-app extensions.
Additional features of the app include hourly changes in the weather and a five-day forecast. Plus, the wind pressure, humidity, and UV index will help you keep track of whether to bring a coat to work or not.
The app will also tell you what time the sun rises and sets, the moon’s current status, and if you are near the ocean, the time of high and low tides.
It will identify you current whereabouts, but you can also add different locations to see what the weather is like in sunny California or whether you should cancel your flight to Virginia. You can also switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
