After taking a heat over the accusations by the United States Federal Trade Commission that it placed unauthorized charges on phone bills for years, T-Mobile is back in the news with some positive headlines.

As noted by the TMoNews blog, the Deutsche Telekom-owned carrier will soon start treating its customers to a $100 rebate when buying an iPhone and iPad together, as part of its back-to-school promotion that launches on July 9…

The rebate will be offered in the form of a mail-in rebate that will get you a $100 Prepaid MasterCard. As noted by Cam Bunton of TMoNews, T-Mobile’s back-to-school promotion is launching in just two days.

Provided you’re a customer on T-Mobile’s Simple Choice postpaid plan and are upgrading or activating a new line, buying an iPhone and iPad together on the same day will net you a $100 mail-in rebate.

Customers must complete offer redemption online.

The promotion – said to be the “first of many back to school offers” – starts on Wednesday, July 9 and runs through September 2, 2014.

Later this month, T-Mobile is scheduled to begin offering accessories on its installment plans. And in related T-Mobile news, the just-released iOS 8 Beta 3 has enabled Wi-Fi calling for T-Mobile iPhones in the United States.

It’s a major development as Wi-Fi calling allows you to place phone calls over Wi-Fi networks, bypassing cellular networks and benefiting you with better call quality and improved battery life.

Apple notes that Wi-Fi calling will not work without entering your address, which will be used when making emergency calls.
