Flipboard updated with GIF support, new ‘Top Stories,’ and more

Good news Flipboard users, the aggregating social/news magazine has updated its mobile apps this afternoon with some handy improvements. The update brings the app to version 2.0.5, and it includes a new ‘Top Stories’ section, GIF support, and more.

With version 2.0.5, users can now scan the day’s Top Stories by genre, which are separated into News, Tech, Business and Sports sections. This is useful in that if you subscribe to multiple RSS feeds, you can easily bypass the stuff that doesn’t interest you…

But perhaps the change most people will be excited to see is the new support for animated GIFs. No matter how you say it—gif or jif—it’s hard to deny that they are awesome. And now you can view them right within your Flipboard app on your iPhone or iPad.

Here’s your release notes:

-Scan the day’s Top Stories, now in News, Tech, Business and Sports sections.
-Enjoy GIFs on Flipboard for iPad and iPhone.
-Bug fixes and performance improvements.

After a major 2.0 update back in March, which brought about custom magazines, notifications and more, Flipboard launched a web compatible version of its app last month. This allows users to enjoy their Flipboard content in any standard web browser.

As always, you can find the latest version of the Flipboard app in the App Store. It’s universal, meaning it’s available for both the iPhone and iPad, and it’s free. And for those of you who already have it, make sure you’re following us here at iDownloadBlog.
