Weekend apps: Foresee, Photoful, Vjay, and more

iPhone 5 appsIt is hard to believe the weekend is already here. It seems like only yesterday that I was complaining about how much I hate Mondays. This past Monday was especially bad since I had to rush my fat cat to the hospital. Don’t worry. It turns out he just has asthma. He is truly a nerdy cat, now.

If you are looking for something to do this weekend, whether you want to play a relaxing card game with your wife, build a birdhouse in your soul, or organize your iPhone’s photo gallery, we have a list that we think you will find interesting…

Rivals for Catan IconRivals for Catan

Fans of the empire building board game will be familiar with the Catan series. Catan HD is very popular in the App Store. Rivals for Catan is based on the card game of the same name. Play your hand to build your town, and harvest your resources to become the best ruler of the kingdom. If you’ve played the complex two-player game, then you’ll love having the chance to hone your skills against various AI opponents. If you’ve never played the game, be warned. It is famous for its extensive rulebook. Be sure to play the tutorial round or you’ll be lost. This game is available for $3.99.

DIY IconDIY – Get skills. Be awesome

If you are looking for a fun project to do this weekend and you happen to be handy with a hammer and glue, you should check out this do-it-yourself project app. You can show off your mad skills at decoupage and furniture making while earning patches for your handy work. You can follow other DIYers, “Like” your favorites, and comment on project pictures. Projects range from baked goods to art and there is something for everyone who likes using their hands. Don’t forget to upload your own DIY weekend project and earn the “Hardware Hacker” patch for that killer porch swing you make. This app is available for free.

Just in case you didn’t already have enough choices in weather apps, there’s a new one in town. This one lets you know what time of the day will offer the best weather conditions for your outdoor activity. If you want to play a round of golf, find out when it will be cool and breezeless. If you’re looking forward to a bit of windsurfing, you may want to wait for a day that is full of breeziness. You can set ideal times for activities every day of the week and share your forecasts with friends on Facebook. You don’t have to stay local either. Find out what the weather will be like in the downtown area before hopping on your bike for an afternoon ride. This app is available for $1.99.

Photoful IconPhotoful

If you can’t wait for iOS 7 to launch, but don’t have a beta code, you are in luck. This app bares a remarkable resemblance to some of the features we’ve heard about in the Photos app. Your entire photo gallery will be uploaded to the app where they will automatically be divided into sets based on their dates. You can then name the sets, add tags to photos, edit images, and share multiple pictures at once to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You can even send a postcard of your photos through “snail mail” using the integrated Sincerely card service. This app is available for free.

VJay for iPhone IconVJay for iPhone

I’m a sucker for a good mash-up. Whether your mixing Ennio Marricone with DMX or Eminem with The Clash, you’ve won me over when I hear the muddled sounds of two completely different genres seamlessly combined into one. VJay is a video mash-up app that lets you combine videos and songs to create your own visually unique music. Not only can you choose from an extensive selection of media that comes with the app, but you can add more from iTunes, or even create your own, personal music video from footage in your camera roll. The reason this app is in our weekend list is because the app’s developer, algoriddim, has dropped the price of this, and the HD iPad version, to free in order to be honored with the App of the Week spotlight in the App Store. I know how much you guys like the free stuff.

Soundwave IconSoundwave – Music Discovery

Music discovery just got more social-y. You thought Spotify was good enough to make sure that all of your friends, family, and acquaintances knew what you were listening to every moment of the day. Soundwave takes it to the max. Follow other users to see what they are listening to and instantly post songs you are listening to your profile so others can see what you do and don’t like. Instantly track your songs on Spotify and Rdio and pick up listening to them in Soundwave. Check out music videos or buy songs in iTunes just by clicking on them in the app. This app is available for free.

I know what you are going to say, $19.99 for an iPhone game is outrageous. Why pay such a premium for a game that you can play on the Xbox 360 for only $10 more? Well, maybe it is high time we start paying what games are worth so they don’t all turn into freemium crap. This iOS port is of excellent quality and deserves to be priced accordingly. If you know about and love this game, you will see that it is worth the price tag. If you consider yourself a gamer, you probably already downloaded it. This game is available for $19.99.
