Amazon releases new Local deals app for iOS

Amazon already has a number of apps on iOS. There’s Kindle, Cloud Player and Price Check to name a few. And over this past week, the company added another one to the list: Amazon Local.

As the name suggests, Amazon Local is a new iOS app that helps you find things based on your location. In this case, those things are deals for restaurants, concerts and other events…

From the App Store description:

“Get the app that saves you up to 75% on amazing offers from local businesses, national chains, and online merchants. Every day, we bring you deep discounts from top-rated restaurants, spas, events, and more.

Our app lets you view and buy offers in seconds, whether it’s a fast-selling Amazon MP3 deal, a special chef dinner, or a luxurious massage.”

Choose to have new deals sent to you via email, or through push notifications. Then use the app to view and purchase the deals instantly. You can even redeem vouchers directly from your iPhone, meaning no printing, which is nice.

Obviously, since many of the deals are GPS-based, the amount you see depends on your location. For example, I’m close to Portland, which is a larger city, so I see about 15 deals right now. That may not be the case for folks in smaller cities.

At any rate, if you live in or plan on traveling to a larger city, Amazon Local is worth taking a look at. I’ve already discovered a handful of cool things to do in my area for cheap. If you’re interested, you can find it in the App Store, for free.

Have you tried Amazon Local yet? Find any good deals?
