The Simpsons to land on iOS soon

Electronic Arts has recently confirmed that it will soon launch an official Simpsons game for iOS, with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch all getting a piece the action.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out will be a free title and include all the main voices from the legendary cast. While no official release date has been set in stone, EA did tell CNET that the game would be out “within the next few weeks”…

The game will be centered around the re-building of Springfield after accident prone Homer (doh!) causes a nuclear explosion at the factory – don’t worry none of the characters die. Your mission is to use the townspeople to help re-build Springfield in your own vision. Characters will be unlocked as the game progresses with Lisa being the first to help Homer clean up the city.

Bernard Kim, Senior Vice President of global publishing for social and mobile for EA, told CNET: “We want this to be one of the biggest titles this year. We’ve invested a lot. It’s absolutely a top-tier development priority for us.”

“Hardcore Simpsons fans will get a lot out of it.” He added.

While the game is going to be one of EA’s ‘freemium’ titles, it will offer in-app purchases that come in the guise of donuts, Homers favorite food. EA believes that this type of in-app purchase is just as lucrative as charging for games, so hopefully we will see a lot more free titles coming from them in the future.

Expect this one to sail straight to the top of the charts in the App Store. We will of course keep you updated as to an official release date.

Are you looking forward to this one?

UPDATE: As iDB reader Chris notes, it seems the app is already available in some countries, such as Denmark.
