Amidst Bankruptcy Rumors, Kodak Files Lawsuit Against Apple

Although it might be hard to believe, Apple gets sued just as much as (if not more than) it files lawsuits. Being one of the world's top companies with over $70 billion in cash laying around puts a pretty big target on your back.

Who's the latest company to put Apple in its sights? None other than Kodak. The 131-year-old photography company has previously attempted to sue the iPhone-makers, and now it appears that it's going after them again...

After 3 Months of Siri, Do You Actually Use It?

With the latest news that Apple may be bringing at least the dictation part of Siri to other iOS devices in iOS 5.1, I got to thinking how much I actually use Siri on my iPhone 4S. The answer is both surprising and yet unsurprising at the same time.

When Apple first launched the iPhone 4S, Siri was hailed as a technological marvel; a real way of interacting with a device using the power of our voices in a way that resembled real language, not a set of canned commands that needed to be spoken in the right order. The theory was great, but it hasn't really panned out yet.

Amazon Skirts the App Store by Launching Kindle Store Web App For the iPad

Amazon has launched a new web interface for its Kindle store, completely bypassing Apple's in-app purchasing system for items that are bought through App Store apps.

The original Kindle app for iOS included links to its own Kindle web store. Apple took offence to this move by Amazon, leading to Amazon removing the links for fear of having the entire app pulled from the App Store for violating Apple's guidelines. From that point on, anyone wanting to buy Kindle books on an iOS device had to reach the store manually, with no mention of it inside the Kindle app.

Liquipel Waterproofs Your iPhone without a Case

To most people, iPhones and iPads are fairly expensive. That's why we all put cases and screen protectors on our devices — to keep them safe from drops and other accidents. But how do we protect our gadgets from water damage?

Well, there's a handful of case options that claim to make your iPhone waterproof, but they're either bulky or extremely unattractive (see DryCase). Liquipel, however, is trying to change that with its new invisible waterproof coating...

Snappy5: The Fastest Way to Snap Pictures With Your iPhone

I know I'm not alone in my predicament, but I can't count the number of times I've missed a good photo opportunity because I was either too slow on the draw, or iOS itself was too slow to load the camera UI.

Snappy5 is a tweak that aims to minimize, if not eliminate that annoying issue. It works by using Activator to quickly pull up the Camera app and automatically snapping a photo or filming a video.

If you find yourself missing a lot of great memories, then you definitely want to check this out...

How to Search YouTube From Notification Center

After the deluge of Notification Center tweaks that were made available right after iOS 5's release, the amount of tweaks targeting iOS 5's crown jewel has stymied off significantly.

That's not to say that there are no Notification Center tweaks being made — YouTube Search for Notification Center is evidence that they still are — but since there are less, I tend to put the more recent releases under the microscope a bit more.

With that in mind, how does YouTube Search for Notification Center stack up?

Magisto Makes Your Home Movies Cool With a Single Click

The Consumer Electronics Show is typically a hardware-focused venue. But there are some software developers who use the event to launch new mobile applications.

The folks over at Sightera Technologies, for example, have just used the show to unveil their latest creation: Magisto. The iPhone app allows you to create entertaining, edited short films out of your boring old home movies.

AllMail is a jailbreak tweak that adds a variety of "mass edit" options to the stock Mail app. For instance, you can select all, delete all, and even hide all emails in one swift motion.

Although iOS 5 has brought some improvements to the Mail app, it's still a lot better when accompanied by jailbreak tweaks like AllMail and others...

Rumor: Hands-On With iPad 3 Shell Reveals Familiar Design, Improved Cameras

As he has done in the past, Jeremy Horwitz of iLounge has claimed to have seen the rear shell of the next-generation iPad. He also revealed a prototype shell of the iPad 2 during CES last year and correctly predicted the tablet's basic upgrades and features.

This time, Horwitz has followed up on his previous iPad 3 report with the claim that he has touched the rear shell of Apple's next-generation iPad. He notes that the exterior design of the device hasn't changed, but he does expect better cameras and a higher-quality screen.

SuperSwitcher: Supercharge Your iPhone’s App Switcher

Apple's App Switcher is a bit on the anemic side when it comes to features. Proof of that comes from the wasted real estate that sits above of your App Switcher just dying to be utilized.

Of course, leave it to the jailbreak community to actually make good use of this wasted space. That's exactly what SuperSwitcher aims to do, and as you'll see inside, it does it quite well...

Is Android Really “Open?”

Google has always touted its Android operating system as being "open" when compared to Apple's "closed" iOS platform. In MG Siegler's recent blog post, the TechCrunch writer/Apple pundit explains why he hates Google for ultimately turning its back on the customer:

All of this backstory knowledge fuels my rage. When I see Google talk about how “open” the platform is, setting it up as the foil to the “closed” (and framed as “evil”) iPhone, I want to scream and rip someone’s head off. It’s not only the most extreme example of being disingenuous that I can ever recall seeing. It’s nuclear bullshit.

Apple, for all the shit they get for being “closed” and “evil”, has actually done far more to wrestle control back from the carriers and put it into the hands of consumers. Google set off to help in this goal, then stabbed us all in the back and went the complete other way, to the side of the carriers. And because they smiled the entire time they were doing it and fed us “open” bullshit, we thanked them for it. We’re still thanking them for it!
