Apple shows off the iPad 3 Retina display

Among the seemingly hundreds of contradicting iPad 3 reports we've heard over the past few months, one piece of gossip in particular has held true: the Retina display. And like so many of the other rumors, this one materialized today.

Apple just unveiled its new tablet, the iPad 3, complete with a staggering 2048 x 1536 resolutions. Simply put, this means the screen of the new tablet contains roughly 4x more pixels than its predecessor...

This is the new iPad

Finally. After months of rumors and speculation, it's finally here. Tim Cook has just unveiled the the new iPad. And though we feel like we've seen and heard enough about the device over the past few months to write a novel, none of that compares to the real deal.

As expected, the new iPad's hardware has received some major upgrades. Sure, it might look similar to its predecessor. But when you take a peek under its hood, you can see that the iPad 3 is an entirely different animal...

New Apple TV announced with new interface and 1080p support

As expected, Tim Cook just announced a new Apple TV with a brand new UI and 1080p support in tow.

The rumors have been swirling about the Apple TV refresh for some time now, and they ultimately proved to be true.

With the new Apple TV comes 1080p support for iTunes in the Cloud, which means you can re-download all of your purchased content in 1080p for free.

iOS 5.1 available today

Apple just announced on stage that iOS 5.1 will be available today, and will support Japanese language for Siri. At this time, that's all we know about iOS 5.1 but I'm sure new features will be unveiled as the event unfolds, so stay tuned for more info.

Siri now speaks Japanese

We had heard rumors from Siri herself that she would soon support Japanese, but it was confirmed this morning by Apple CEO Tim Cook. It will be part of iOS 5.1 when it's available, likely today.

Tim Cook talks numbers at Apple iPad 3 event

Apple's iPad 3 event has begun, and the company's CEO Tim Cook has just taken the stage to get things started. Judging by his words, the theme of today's announcements is going to be "post PC products" (duh).

As with every Apple event, the company is kicking things off by talking about numbers. After all, numbers are what define whether or not a company is successful. And judging by this data, Apple's doing pretty good...

Jailbreakers beware of iOS 5.1

With today's announcement, we're pretty sure that iOS 5.1 will be right around the corner, with a probable release of the Gold Master sometimes this week.

A few people on Twitter asked me to put up a friendly reminder that jailbreakers should make sure not to update to iOS 5.1 when it comes out, especially iPhone 4S owners...

iPad 4G shows up in Apple inventory

Apple's highly-anticipated iPad 3 event is just half an hour away. But that hasn't stopped tipsters from coming forward with some last-minute information regarding today's announcements.

9to5Mac is reporting that it has just received a couple of tips from its always reliable "Mr X" source. It appears that 4G LTE iPads are already populating in Apple's inventory, as are the "mystery" accessories we've been hearing about...

The Apple Store is down

As always prior to a huge event like this, Apple has taken their online store offline in order to update it with new products.

While Apple has not come forth and said what they will be unveiling today (and they never do), the iPad refresh is in the cards along with an updated Apple TV.

No one's 100% sure what the arrangements will be when the store comes back online, but various reports state that the Apple TV will be available for immediate purchase...

Rumor: New haptic feedback touchscreen bound for the iPad 3

Is this the real secret of the iPad 3 invite? According to a report by The Next Web's Matthew Panzarino, Apple could be cooking up something incredible for the iPad 3.

That incredible secret — one that has ironically been sitting under everyone's nose the entire time — is a special touch feedback technology that was first revealed where? Yep, Cupertino, California.

Panzarino reasons that while the currently existing haptic feedback technology employed by Android products and the like are pretty uninspiring, this new technology could permanently change how we expect to interact with touch screen devices...

A new $99 Apple TV tomorrow?

Tomorrow's event won't be exclusively about the iPad 3, as 9to5Mac confirms what we've heard before about an Apple TV refresh:

We’ve gotten a few more tidbits about tomorrow’s Apple TV announcement (Oh, there will be a new iPad too!). The Apple TV J33 model, MD199LL/A – J33 BEST -USA, which we’ve covered before will come in at the same $99 price point (and similar prices globally). We know from previous reports that it will have updated hardware internally including Bluetooth 4.0 Broadcom chip as well as a higher powered processor capable of 1080P video.

This is definitely not a surprise. As a matter of fact, we dedicated a whole section of our predictions for tomorrow's event about the Apple TV.

9to5Mac also mentions a mystery accessory that would be available for $39. It likely is a dock, cable, or maybe a new remote. All those questions will be answered tomorrow, so make sure to tune in to iDB for the full coverage.
