Rumor: next iPhone to include 1GB of RAM, tweaked CPU

According to a new report by 9to5Mac, a new iPhone and a new iPod touch is in the works.

Should this even be labeled as a rumor considering the absolute inevitability of these hardware updates? I don't know, but the wait, speculation, and anticipation is always amusing.

According to their sources, a variant of the A5X chip will power the next generation iPhone, and it will include 1GB of RAM. To me, a varient suggests it's probably not an "A5X" per-se, but an entirely new processor dedicated to the device's smaller form factor, and less visually intensive needs.

Their source also indicates that the next generation iPhone has been seeded internally, yet it is being housed in ho-hum iPhone 4/4S casing to throw off any potential leaks.

Sounds about par for course. I guess the only thing left to make this 100% legit is for the new iPhone tester to head to his or her favorite bar, am I right?

Despite criticism, Apple is beating competitors in supply chain efforts

The New York Times published an interesting article yesterday regarding Apple's efforts to improve working conditions in its supply chain. But unlike the report it ran earlier this year, which largely criticized the company, this piece praised Cook's team.

After doing a little research, The Times found that Apple is far more transparent with its overseas factory audits and is doing more to correct violations than any of its competitors. In fact, a majority of the companies won't even comment on the matter...

Here’s how to use AT&T’s online chat to unlock your iPhone

So yeah, I was lazy. Unlike Cody, I don't have the patience to wait on hold, or be placed in a revolving door of automated prompts. It was either head directly to the store, or give AT&T's technical support chat a try.

Thankfully, AT&T's technical support chat has a pretty good track record with me; I figured I'd give that a try before deciding to burn a gallon of gas to head to the closest AT&T store. Would they even be open on a holiday anyway?

At the end of the day, I'm glad I decided on this method. In less than 10 minutes the unlocking process for my iPhone was initiated, saving me time, gas money, and a potential headache.

Whereas it took Cody about 20 minutes to initiate his iPhone 4 unlock, it took me less than 10 minutes. Folks, it really doesn't get any simpler than this...

Confirmed: AT&T now unlocking out of contract iPhones

On Friday, a rumor surfaced that AT&T was going to start unlocking out of contract iPhones for its subscribers. This is a big departure from the typical trials and tribulations you have to go through to unlock the handset, so we had to test it out.

I'm an AT&T customer, with an iPhone 4 that's been out of contract for quite some time, so I decided to give the carrier a call. And sure enough — at least judging from my experience — the company appears to be unlocking old iPhones...

Curiosa: receive notifications for new updates in Cydia

Wouldn't it be nice to have notifications whenever new Cydia updates are released? It's already been done once with Aptdate, but that's now been one-upped courtesy of Ryan Petrich's latest creation entitled Curiosa.

Like Aptdate, Curiosa provides you with banner notifications for new Cydia updates, but this tweak includes quite a few additional options as you'll notice from our video walkthrough...

Photos from inside Apple’s headquarters

Apple's dedication to secrecy is the stuff of legends. We've heard a number of stories regarding the elaborate measures the company takes to ensure that unannounced products and other projects never make it outside its walls.

So as you can imagine, photographs inside Apple's headquarters are fairly rare. But the folks over at Apple Gazette have put together an extensive gallery of pictures taken inside the building, so we thought we'd share a few of them...

SwipeCam: swipe the camera icon to reveal Lock screen toggles

SwipeCam is an upcoming jailbreak tweak that allows you to use your Lock screen camera toggle as a gateway to more options.

SwipeCam only works with the old Lock screen camera interface, so that means devices below iOS 5.1.

Once the tweak is installed, simply enabled it, invoke your Lock screen camera shortcut, and swipe on the camera icon to reveal the additional toggles...
