Steve Jobs Biography Set to Release A Month Early

Originally scheduled for November, the official Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson will launch a month early, on October 24. Just like we had reported back in June, this biography will cover the details of his resignation and get Steve's insights both before and after that day.

Pre-orders for the biography have skyrocketed by some 40,000%+ since yesterday and the book is now one of the top sellers on both Amazon and iTunes...

Apple Stock on the Rise Despite the Terrible News

Just like when Steve Jobs resigned from his CEO duties in August, Apple stock is slightly up this morning, despite the terrible news. With the death of the company's visionary, I expected the stock to be down a bit, but it's not at all.

In his resignation letter, Steve wrote, "I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it." Investors seem to agree...

What the iPhone 4S Means to Unlockers

In the first three years of the iPhone's existence, the handset was crippled by limited availability. The only carrier in the US that offered the smartphone was AT&T. And in other countries, the device's exclusivity was just as bad.

This year, however, Apple has been making some major strides. With the iPhone 4S, three out of the four major US carriers will have access to the device. But what does the new handset mean for T-Mobile customers and other unlockers?

What’s Different About the iPhone 4S Antenna?

One part of Apple's iPhone 4S announcement that perhaps isn't getting all that much talk time (see what I did there?) is the new, redesigned antenna system. That's particularly interesting considering how eager everyone was so talk about it, back when the iPhone 4 was suffering from the good ol' AntennaGate debacle!

So, what's so new about Apple's latest redesign of something that most phone manufacturers never even talk about at all?

Behind each great company, there is a great mission statement. Apple's mission is to bring the best personal computing experience to consumers through its innovative hardware, software, and Internet offerings.

This mission statement has been driving Apple for years, fueling the company's vision of what the future could look like, and then turning that vision into reality. In this video, you will see Apple's 1987 vision of what we know today as the iPad, Siri, and FaceTime...

Safari UniBar: Add Google Chrome’s OmniBar to Mobile Safari

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a staunch Google Chrome advocate for basically two reasons: a) It's incredibly easy it is to restore all of your bookmarks, history, and extensions. And b). The OmniBar.

The OmniBar is the feature that I always end up missing the most when I'm forced to use another browser. The OmniBar is great, because it does something incredibly simple: It lets you perform searches and web queries from within the same box.

Safari UniBar is a jailbreak tweak that brings this same functionality to the iPhone's Mobile Safari...

TinyUmbrella Updated to Bring Support for iOS 5 GM

TinyUmbrella, the handy tool that lets you save your SHSH blobs and easily restore to a previous firmware if needed, has been updated to version 5.0b7. This new version doesn't bring anything new but support for iOS 5 GM, which was released yesterday.

If you have updated your iDevice to iOS 5 GM, it would be a good idea to run TinyUmbrella and make sure your SHSH blobs are safe. That is if you even remotely care about jailbreaking...

Apple’s New Siri Feature is Much More Than Simple Voice Commands

As expected, one of the stars of Apple's iPhone event yesterday was its new Siri feature. The project, which the rumor mill dubbed Assistant, materialized on stage as a digital personal assistant for future iPhone users.

Even with its impressive demo yesterday, many folks have written Siri off as another failed attempt at a voice command feature. TUAW did some digging and found some evidence that it's much, much more than that...

Sprint Confirms Unlimited Data Plan for iPhone

Now that Sprint officially has the iPhone, the company confirmed today to All Things D that it will keep offering unlimited data plans when it starts selling the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, starting next week.

Although not sustainable in the long run, this move is aimed at standing up against AT&T and Verizon who both have stopped offering unlimited data plans a while ago...
